Rich Man – Poor Man

The monthly income of the 24 richest families in Mexico equals the collective monthly income of 25 million poor Mexicans, the Daily, La Jornada reported Saturday.

According to studies conducted by Macario Schettino, economic analysis director at the Tecnologico de Monterrey University, Mexico ranks as the country with the second worst income distribution worldwide.  Schettino said population growth has overtaken economic growth in the past 17 years, resulting in a lack of jobs.  She said this phenomenon is causing a serious social polarization between “two Mexicos”: the very rich who have everything and the extremely poor who lack basic necessities.
